What to Do
The clear, spring-fed waters of Junior Lake and the 11 other surrounding interconnected lakes of the West Grand Lake Region are teeming with over a dozen species of fish including landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, whitefish, trout, pickerel, and perch to name just a few.
Junior Lake, where we are located, is a 3,866 acre, “two-tier” lake offering both warm and cold water varieties of fish. It is considered by anglers worldwide to be the premier fishing destination in the Northeast.
We have the only boat ramp on Junior Lake. Our guests have free access to it. The connected lakes are also highly rated by fishers in the know. You can fish directly from the shore. Rent a boat from us or bring your own boat to discover your new favorite fishing spot.
BOATING, CANOEING, & KAYAKING
There are few places on earth as spectacularly beautiful as the geography surrounding Wild Fox Cabins. Untamed woods, sparkling water, and distant mountains provide a breathtaking backdrop that can only be described as majestic. One of the best ways to enjoy it is from the water.
Rent a fishing boat, canoe, or kayak and venture into the waterways and small islands found on Junior Lake and the 25,000 acres of other lakes in the region. Many of the lake islands have picnic facilities and campsites. Bring a lunch or spend the night under the stars! Explore the historic Native American canoe routes where you will be wowed by nature’s perfection unchanged by time.
ATV enthusiasts have come to this part of the state for many years to take advantage of its many miles of trails and old logging roads. Explore the trails on your own. Plan a longer trek on Maine’s amazing club-maintained trails.
Wild Fox Cabins is located on 155 unspoiled acres of some of the most fertile hunting grounds in the Northeast. Both large and small game hunting is permitted. Abundant numbers of moose, bear, deer, coyote, and smaller game such as rabbits and grouse inhabit the area. There is also an adjacent 300,000 acres of conservation land with access to miles of gravel roads and additional bountiful wildlife habitats.
SNOWMOBILING, SKIING, & SNOW-SHOEING
The fun doesn’t end at Wild Fox Cabins when winter weather sets in. The region is blanketed in snow. The stark winter scenery is quite beautiful and largely underappreciated. We invite you to come and judge for yourself.
Winter sports and other activities keep you warm and make for a special winter getaway. When the lake freezes over, guests enjoy ice fishing for landlocked salmon, whitefish, and white perch. Call or email for information on group packages and guides.
There are 133 miles of nearby snowmobile trails groomed by local snowmobile clubs. Connections can be made from them to the legendary Maine Interconnected Trail System (ITS).
Cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing are some of the best cardio possible. They are popular in this area of Maine. Visit the local ski resort for some downhill skiing. Have some family fun at their snow-tubing park.
A relaxing hike along the many nature and hiking trails throughout our grounds is one of the most popular ways to enjoy our picturesque scenery. We guarantee a satisfying and fully interactive experience that changes with the seasons. Don’t forget your camera, as you are likely to see a moose or two, and numerous other species like deer, pine marten, beaver, otters, and many others.
Bird watchers also have cause to celebrate as this area supports over 185 bird varieties, including 23 kinds of warbler, loons, American black ducks, Canada geese, wood ducks, osprey, and Bald Eagles. In the Fall, dramatic seasonal foliage energizes your senses with an explosion of colors and scents. “Leaf Peeping” here is unrivaled anywhere in the country.
